Our training approach

training Specialties

It’s just no fun to be around a dog who has poor manners – especially when the dog is yours!  Training your dog can be hard work, but it’s worth every minute that you spend. In fact, it often seems that the harder you have to work, the more rewarding it is in the end.

The In Harmony training philosophy and methods are modern and reward-based.  They are based in the science and are proven to be highly effective, in both the short term and especially in the long term.

Our philosophy supports building a strong working relationship and special bond between dogs and owners in positive, fun and motivational ways.  We will give you the tools to begin to communicate effectively, build mutual respect and consequently a bond of trust between you and your dog. There is a key to motivating each dog to learn and work with their human family members, and we delight in helping each team find it.

Science has taught us that dogs learn better when positive reinforcement is used instead of punishment. Sounds complicated?… not really! At In Harmony, we focus on rewarding what dogs do right instead of only correcting when they do something wrong. We teach the dogs what we want and motivate them to do it consistently. This makes learning fun for both the human and the dog. We use treats, toys, play and praise to reward (not bribe!) the behaviors we want to teach or reinforce.

We do not advocate the use of forceful methods or equipment that cause pain or discomfort to your dog.  Instead, we employ methods and tools that facilitate understanding, good manners and behaviors that we can reward.
