Personal evaluations and consultations (working spots)
During your personal 30-minute evaluation / consultation with MAR K9 trainer Kat Albrecht-Thiessen your dog's temperament, drive and skills will be assessed to see if he is a strong candidate for Missing Animal Response work.  You will also be shown and start working on the beginning steps (like "take scent", "search" or "push") with your dog.

15 evaluation spots are available and  will be awarded to the first to register.  Once working spots have been filled, you will be placed on a waitlist and invoiced for the additional working amount ($50) only if a working spot opens and is accepted. All seminar participants who elect a non-working spot (Saturday only) may observe the evaluations. The number of observers may be limited depending on space, and every effort will be made to let you watch as many evaluations as possible.

About Kat

Kat Albrecht-Thiessen is a former police detective-turned-pet detective and founder of both the nonprofit Missing Pet Partnership and the newly launched Missing Animal Response Network (MARN).

Kat started training cadaver dogs and police bloodhounds in 1989 and led a successful career in training and handling search dogs. In 1996, Kat’s police bloodhound escaped and was lost in the woods. After using another search dog to track down her missing hound, Kat began to pioneer “pet detective” services.

Since 1997, Kat has been working to train both humans and search dogs to find lost pets and she is widely known as the leading authority in lost pet recovery training.

In 2018, Kat launched her online MAR K9 training program and currently has dogs in training across North America and Europe. Due to an increase in demand for MAR K9 services plus a rise in unethical and poorly trained dogs, Kat is committed to the development of standards and independent certification of MAR K9 teams.
